Falcon Talks (November 10)

Tuesday, November 10, 2020 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

"See yourself and your town in the movies" Fitchburg on Film in 1941 On Tuesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. (EDT) join Susan Navarre, the Executive Director at the Fitchburg Historical Society, and Professor Charles Roberts (Communications Media) for a virtual presentation titled "See yourself and your town in the movies" Fitchburg on Film in 1941. Thanks to a film digitizing and restoration project organized by Professor Charles Roberts (Communications Media) and presented in collaboration with the Fitchburg Historical Society, a peculiar insight into a Fitchburg of the past returns to the big screen. This Amateur Service Productions film was shot in November of 1941 as a "slice of life" curiosity for local residents of the time, but it has survived as another sort of curiosity: a constructed document about a Fitchburg only barely within living memory. Join us for a screening of a curated selection of footage excerpts introduced by Professor Roberts and a brief discussion led by Susan Navarre. Navarre will set the context for how Fitchburg would see itself: how people presented themselves in public spaces like Main Street or at Church, the world of men and the world of women, and a glimpse into children’s lives at school and at play. Join with Google Meet: meet.google.com/ujn-otbf-tat or call in using (234) 719-3544 (PIN: 189 187 149#) Funding for this project was generously provided by the Fitchburg State Alumni Association.
